The Biological Records Centre is part of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and works in partnership with more than 100 recording schemes and societies to mobilize species occurrence records in the UK. The mobilization of data from these recording schemes & socities through to GBIF is often via the National Biodiversity Network (NBN).
Since its establishment in1964, the BRC has helped to mobilize over 100 Million records, covering a broad range of animal and plant group. Verification workflows are well-developed by the schemes to ensure that the data are accurate.
These data have been used for local and national assessments of biodiversity change, including official biodiversity indicators, as well as address a range of basic and applied research questions.
The BRC also helps the community to publish regional and national atlases, provide data and website infrastructure, develop verification workflows, and provide tools to support the involvement of citizen scientists in biodiversity monitoring. Please see our website for more details.
There is currently occurrence records on the GBIF network from data providers and or datasets where BRC has provided support or assistance.
